WSET LEvel 1 award in wines

Who is this course for?

For individuals new to wine, this qualification provides a hands-on introduction to the world of wine. You’ll explore the main types and styles of wine through sight, smell and taste, while also gaining the basic skills to describe wines accurately and make food and wine pairings. No prior knowledge of wine is assumed.

What you’ll learn

  • The main styles of wine

  • Common wine grapes and their characteristics

  • The principles of food and wine pairing

  • How to describe wine using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)

The course fee includes course book, tasting wines, classes and examination. Successful candidates will recieve a certificate and lapel pin.

WSET Level 2 Award In wines and Spirits

Who is this course for?

This course does not assume prior knowledge of wine. It is for individuals seeking a core understanding of wines. This qualification explores the major grape varieties and important wine regions in which they are grown. You’ll learn about the styles of wines produced from these grapes as well as key classifications and labeling terminology. A basic overview of the key categories of spirits and liqueurs will also be provided.

What you’ll learn.

  • How wine is made

  • What factors influence wine style

  • The key white and black grape varieties and their characteristics

  • The important wine-producing regions of the world in which these grapes are grown

  • Label terminology

  • The production of sparkling, sweet and forti ed wines

  • How to describe wine using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)

  • Food and wine pairing principles

  • The principal categories of spirits and liqueurs, and how they are made.

Note that from August 1st, this course will become Level 2 Award in Wine.

WSET Level 3 Award in Wines

For individuals seeking to delve deeper into the world of wines, this qualification provides a detailed understanding of grape growing and winemaking. Upon completion, you will be able to assess wines accurately and use your understanding to confidently explain wine style and quality. This course assumes Level 2 knowledge of wine as a prerequisite.

What you’ll learn:

Unit 1:

  • The key factors in the production of wine: location, grape growing, winemaking, maturation and bottling

  • How these key factors influence the key characteristics of the principal

    • still wines of the world

    • sparkling wines of the world

    • fortified wines of the world

  • How to apply your understanding to explain wine style and quality

Unit 2:

  • How to taste wines, describe their characteristics and evaluate their quality, using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT).
